CAMERON Mukherjee has finished fifth in the race to be crowned Scottish Boys’ Under-16 Open champion.

The 54-hole strokeplay event was contested over three days at Portlethen, near Aberdeen, last week.

The competition was split into two sections – with the field whittled down to 60 after the opening two rounds.

Defending champion Finlay Galloway, of St Andrews, was unable to retain his crown as he finished tied for eighth spot.

Instead, Switzerland’s Yannick Beeli took the title after rounds of 63, 66 and 72 saw him finish seven shots clear of his nearest rival.

That was one shot ahead of Kiron Gribble, of Dunbar Golf Club, who was tied alongside four other golfers.

Finally, Harrison O’Connor, of Gullane Golf Club, missed the cut after rounds of 82 and 76.
