NORTH Berwick High School is celebrating after clinching a piece of national silverware.

The school’s S3 netball team won the Scottish Schools Plate after defeating Paisley’s Gleniffer High School 53-31.

A coach-load of supporters travelled to the home of Scottish netball – the Emirates Arena – in Glasgow for the final of the national competition.

The county squad had come through the semi-final by one goal against Westhill Academy in Aberdeenshire to secure their spot in the final.

At the end of the first quarter, North Berwick held a slim 11-10 lead but they began to take control.

A 24-16 advantage at the halfway stage was extended to 40-26 with one quarter remaining.

And they secured victory by again proving too strong in the final quarter.

Sally Hetherington, North Berwick High School coach, was delighted with the victory.

More than 300 schools entered the national competition and it was a great achievement for the county school.

A number of the squad are members of the Bass Rocketeers Netball Club and play in the City of Edinburgh Netball (CENA) junior leagues.

Hetherington said: “This was such an exciting opportunity for this team; they have worked so hard.

“As soon as they arrived at the arena, they had the right mindset.

“They arrived as a team and put out on court their best performance to date – I was so proud of every single one of them – such a huge achievement.”

The team members were: Tamsin Ralph, Eleanor Stirling, Lilianna Way, Rose O’Rourke, Ellina Dickie, Rosie Weir, Julia Cathcart, Francesca Watts, Rosie Buchanan and Anna Mackenzie.
