YOUNG squash players have enjoyed great success at the first gold event of the new season.
Members of the Tyne District Squash and Racketball Club in Haddington travelled to Inverness.
Phoebe Hamilton, playing in the under-13 girls’ event, was invincible and won all her matches 3-0.
She also played in the under-15 event and was runner-up to her sister, Isla Hamilton.
The match between the two sisters was fought with no quarter given from beginning to end but it was Isla eventually winning 3-2.
Isla went on to win the under-15 event.
Meanwhile, Jamie Pearman played in the under-15 boys’ event.
He played some great squash and managed to finish third, which was a great result for the teenager, who only recently entered the under-15 boys’ age group.
Finally, Fraser and Hamish Westgarth gained some valuable experience in their first ever gold events.
Meanwhile, following the truncated end to the last season due to Covid-19, the East of Scotland Squash Leagues have recommenced with five player teams.
Tyne 1 is playing in Division Two, after gaining promotion at the end of the last season, got away to a 4-1 (16-9) home win against Linlithgow 1.
Dave Legge, Josh Bain and Billy Scott all won 3-2 after titanic battles.
Dylan Pearman playing at No 1 was simply too fast and creative for his experienced opponent and easily won 3-0.
Jamie Pearman, showing signs of his efforts the previous weekend in the Inverness Gold Medal event, started brightly but gradually faded and lost 3-1.
