TALENTED young squash stars have finished on the podium at a national competition.

Members of Tyne District Squash and Racketball Club travelled to Aberdeen to take part in the first of the Scottish Squash Gold events.

Four juniors from the Haddington-based club made the journey north and all performed well over a busy weekend.

Phoebe Hamilton, competing in her first gold medal event at 11 years old, was simply unbeatable in the under-13 event and won the gold medal after winning all her matches 3-0.

She also came fourth in the under-15 event.

Isla Hamilton came second in the under-15 event and was simply too strong for everyone except the top seed.

Meanwhile, Jamie Pearman came second in the under-13 event after previously taking part in the British Closed at Birmingham, where he finished 10th.

The youngster also played in the under-15 event and ended up in fourth place, having played a total of eight matches over the two days.

However, it was Jamie’s older brother, Dylan, who produced the match of the tournament in the under-17 event as he won the gold medal.

The teenager showed great power, agility, court coverage and the most delicate of drop shots to outplay his opponents.

The next event is the Scottish Squash Nationals at the end of the month, with the Tyne juniors out to bring home more silverware.
