LIFEBOAT volunteers are aiming to keep their feet dry as they spring into action this weekend.
Emulating the efforts of Dunbar’s crews from yesteryear, who had to launch lifeboats by human or horse power, the modern day crew will be pushing the D-class inshore lifeboat for a mile on Saturday as part of the RNLI’s Mayday Mile.
The lifeboat will be pushed on its trailer from Dunbar Harbour, along High Street towards East Beach and back to the harbour, 9-11am – the fundraising team are collecting in the town 10am-3pm.
In the days before tractor launchers or the mooring at Torness, volunteers had to push lifeboats to launch from Dunbar or Skateraw or use horse power. The last horse-drawn launch was in 1909.
