PLANS for a new supermarket in Wallyford have moved a step closer.
East Lothian Council’s planning department gave advertising consent to Tesco for various signs at the new store, which will be located between the village’s primary and secondary schools.
The supermarket giant already has permission for the Tesco Express store.
No objections were received to the planning application and it was noted that the signs would be visible from the village’s Futures Way.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “The proposed signage would not be dissimilar in its design, scale and appearance to similar retail unit signage approved elsewhere within East Lothian.
“Therefore, in its proposed location among the community facilities to be constructed, the proposed signage would not appear as harmfully prominent, intrusive or incongruous features or be harmful to the visual amenity of the area.”
The Courier previously asked Tesco, which has branches in Musselburgh, Haddington and North Berwick, for information on a potential opening date and the number of jobs that could be created at the store.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re always looking for the best ways to serve local communities and are excited to be planning a new Tesco Express store in Wallyford.
“We will keep the local community updated with our plans as we get closer to opening.”
