The annual Fisherrow Harbour Festival in Musselburgh attracted more than 5,000 locals and visitors on Saturday as it coincided with Star Wars Day.

Characters from the iconic movies visited the harbourside event to mingle with the crowds during the four hour event from 11am-3pm.

Despite the grey skies the rain stayed away as people of all ages from the Fisherrow and Musselburgh community and visitors from further afield enjoyed the activities and entertainment on the waterfront, and in the water itself.

The two stages at opposite ends of the seafront became focal points for the crowds.

The Ravelston House Electric Main Stage featured bands such as Joe Madden, Pocket Collective, The Citrines and The One Jam Band, who closed off the day with hit songs from U2, Ozzy Osbourne, Buggles and Chesney Hawkes.

The children enjoyed dancing to the different musical styles. Over at the other end of the seafront the acoustic stage showcased St David's Brass Band, Pulse The Place, Louise Collie Dance, Ron Ray Magic and the lovely melodies of the Clark Community Choir.

Many local businesses took stalls offering everything from soap, wooden crafts, colourful fabrics and luxury cookies. Food was provided by Sizzlers, the Churros Van, Slice Girls Pizza van, Luca's Ice cream and paella was also served to keep those hunger pangs at bay.

The raft race was a highlight of the afternoon, with crowds lining up along shore at Fisherrow sands and along the harbour wall to watch the spectacle.

The rafts, cobbled together from planks of wood, plastic and metal drums and containers and crewed team members energetically paddling with makeshift oars circled the buoys out on the water and headed back to the beach.

Harbour manager and leader of the festival committee, Stuart Rillie, was on the winning raft, named HMS Sink, for the second year running, beating the other rafts Super Trouper and Peppa, which crewed by Dutch friends, making it "a truly international race."

Soaked but clearly delighted, Mr Rillie reflected on the success of the festival: "The number of people enjoying the Fisherrow Harbour Festival 2024 exceed all our expectations. And this year we were bigger than ever. More stalls, more activities, and more entertainment. What a day - absolutely fantastic. Everyone pulled together and made this a huge success. From the bottom my heart, thanks to Ravelston House Hotel who sponsored the event, all the local businesses that had stalls, the bands and entertainers, and of course everyone from the local community and beyond who came along."
