A MAN who poured petrol over furniture within a home in Tranent and threatened to set the property alight has been remanded in custody.

Scott MacDonald poured the fluid over chairs, a couch and soft furnishings before lighting a cigarette within the home at the town’s Lammermoor Terrace.

He then told police he intended to set the house on fire during the incident on January 31.

MacDonald was arrested before any fire could take place.

The 50-year-old appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly pouring petrol over furnishings and stating he intended to set fire to the house.

The offence was committed while MacDonald was on three bail orders from the city centre court.

Sheriff Alistair Noble deferred sentence to later this month for social work reports to be prepared and remanded MacDonald in custody in the meantime.
