YOUNG performers are set to stage 13! A New Musical at Loretto Theatre in Musselburgh.
Supported by the Brunton Performing Arts Network, the 30-strong cast from East Lothian, Midlothian and Edinburgh have been learning songs, dances and their lines in weekly workshops and rehearsals at Musselburgh Grammar School.
The young people, aged 11 to 18, are almost ready to take to the stage at Loretto Theatre, with shows from Thursday, February 15, to Saturday, February 17, at 7.30pm.
The Brunton Performing Arts Network, in association with David Ross, has created this opportunity for young people to learn new skills, develop their talents, meet new people and have fun – while creating a show.
Mr Ross, a programme co-ordinator, community theatre director and drama teacher, is a freelance youth theatre tutor with The Brunton.

The cast of amateur performers is supported by arts professionals such as a theatre director, music director, choreographer and technical team.
The Brunton Performing Arts Network is the community participation wing of Brunton Theatre Trust, offering weekly groups for youth theatre, dance, musical theatre and adult drama, as well as musical theatre productions for young people and adult community casts.
A spokesperson for The Brunton said: “Participation in creative activities is of huge benefit to young people.
“Taking part is fun and helps build confidence, fuels the imagination and develops skills that are useful in all areas of life.”
The show 13! A New Musical tells the coming-of-age story of Evan Goldman, who is plucked from his fast-paced, pre-teen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents’ divorce.
Surrounded by an array of middle-school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?
