PARENTS whose children do not turn five ahead of the school term in August, and who wish to defer their child starting school for a year, are being asked to inform East Lothian Council by next Friday (February 9).
Traditionally in Scotland, nearly all children start primary school between four-and-half and five years old.
Children who have not had their fifth birthday by the time school starts in August are entitled to another year of funded early learning and childcare. For session 2024/25, this is available to children who turn five between August 15 this year and February 28, 2025.
Parents who wish to defer their child’s start to primary school are asked to complete a form via rb.gy/zc0ux0 by next Friday.
