An 81-year-old man died following a 6ft fall from an assistance lift at Edinburgh Airport, it has emerged.
The Courier understands that the man had been receiving support to exit a plane on November 28 when he fell onto the tarmac below.
The man was treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died just over a week later on December 7.
An investigation is underway from the Health and Safety Executive and police have confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances.
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: "We are aware of the death of an 81-year-old man following a fall at Edinburgh Airport. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
"At this time we are cooperating fully with regulatory authorities in their investigations."
