Bellway Homes has donated more than £3,000 to Elphinstone Primary School to purchase learning equipment.

The school plans to use the £3,365 donation to buy large school unit block sets, a learning tool that fosters open-ended, creative and constructive play and helps develop children’s critical thinking skills.

Last term, the housebuilder, which is developing a new residential development on the outskirts of the village, donated £500 to the school’s parent teacher association.

Chris Graham, sales manager at Bellway Homes (Scotland East), said: “The pupils have been really interested in finding out all about the new local homes that are being built and we are in the process of arranging a visit to our site so they can see first-hand all the different elements that go into building a new development.

“It’s very important to us to support the communities in which we build and ensure that our developments are sympathetically integrated within existing neighbourhoods, particularly in a village as small as Elphinstone, and our new residents welcome.”

Elaine Williamson, principal teacher at Elphinstone Primary School, added: “We are delighted by this contribution from Bellway. We are looking to ensure these blocks are used from nursery to primary seven to support the children’s learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“We hope to take the children over to visit the new development when it is safe to do so.”

Bellway’s new development, Elfenne Gardens, features a collection of three and four-bedroom homes.
