IT'S that time of year again as towns and villages across East Lothian get ready to switch on their Christmas lights for 2023.

North Berwick, Gullane, Haddington, Dunbar, Tranent and East Linton all host events this weekend.

Here are the details.

North Berwick

North Berwick’s switch on takes place tonight at 6pm on High Street.

As the town’s Christmas lights illuminate, a collective holiday singalong takes place at 6.15pm. Visitors are encouraged to bring along their festive jumpers, brightest lights and loudest singing voices.

Businesses around the town have also dressed their windows to get into the festive spirit.

The Best Dressed Window winner will be crowned after being determined by the window photo with the most ‘likes’ on the North Berwick at Christmas Facebook page.

The winner will receive a trophy during the evening ceremony.

Gullane

Gullane’s switch on also takes place tonight at 4.40pm off the village’s Main Street.

Live music will be provided during the afternoon, as well as the drama of the switch-on.

The Old Clubhouse is providing mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate afterwards, and donations can be made to the village’s Christmas lights fund.

Haddington

Haddington’s event gets under way outside the town’s Corn Exchange at 4.30pm tomorrow.

Radio Saltire will provide music, and carol singing will be led by Knox Community Gospel Choir.

Youngsters from the town’s secondary school will also perform.

Santa Claus and elves will be in attendance ahead of the lights being switched on at 5pm.

Dunbar

Dunbar’s display gets underway tomorrow at 6.05pm on High Street.

The switch-on will feature activities suitable for all ages, as well as a mix of market stalls and entertainment.

Tranent

Tranent’s annual Christmas lights display takes place tomorrow from 5pm to 6pm on Winton Place.

The lights will be switched on by Sanderson’s Wynd pupil Freya Rawlins, and the evening will also feature the draw for the 2024 gala court.

There will be carol singing by Clark Community Choir, as well as music by singers from Tranent Parish Church and Pulse of the Place. Radio Saltire will also be in attendance.

Santa will be dropping by for photos.

East Linton

East Linton’s annual Christmas Lights switch-on takes place tomorrow in the village square.

From 4-6pm, a variety of fundraising stalls and activities are on offer.

East Linton Christmas Lights Committee is fundraising to secure the future of the event after being “perilously short of cash” this year.

A Crowdfunder has raised more than £1,660 and remains open at https://rb.gy/b8ts0k
