REMEMBRANCE services take place across East Lothian this weekend in memory of those who gave their lives for their country.

On Saturday, West Barns holds a service at the Memorial Garden, led by the Rev Brian Hilsley from Belhaven Church, beginning at 10.50am. Wreaths will be laid by the Lord Lieutenant, the community council and others at 11.10am. Refreshments will be served in West Barns Village Hall afterwards.

Both Musselburgh and Wallyford have commemorations on both Saturday and Sunday.

In Musselburgh, a wreath-laying ceremony takes place at 10am on Saturday at the First World War memorial at St Michael’s Church, Inveresk. On Sunday, a parade of local organisations starts at 10.10am from the Town Hall heading to St Michael’s Church Hall on Dalrymple Loan for a service at 10.45am.

A wreath-laying ceremony takes place at the war memorial at The Mall at about noon.

The fallen of Wallyford, Deantown (now Whitecraig) and Smeaton are remembered at the Crookston War Memorial in Inveresk Cemetery on Saturday from 10.45am. Then on Sunday, the commemoration at St Clements in Wallyford gets under way at 10am.

The bulk of commemorations in the county are held on Sunday.

In Prestonpans, a parade starts at 10.30am at Rope Walk via Redburn Road, North Grange Avenue, Ayres Wynd and High Street, where it stops at the war memorial, then returns along High Street, Redburn Road and Rope Walk. A section of High Street, from its junction with New Street to its junction with Ayres Wynd, will be temporarily closed.

In Cockenzie and Port Seton, a parade starts at the Memorial Garden on Marshall Street before moving along West Harbour Road, Edinburgh Road and East Lorimer Place, arriving at the war memorial for 11am for wreath-laying before continuing along Edinburgh Road to Chalmers Memorial Church, then moving along Manse Lane and High Street, where it will stop at the Old Parish Kirk. It concludes by returning via High Street, Manse Lane, Edinburgh Road, West Harbour Road and finally Marshall Street at 12.55pm.

In Longniddry, a service takes place at Longniddry Parish Church at 10.45am. The road will be closed from 10am to allow the parade to leave from Longniddry Royal British Legion on Links Road to the church on Elcho Road. After the service, the parade returns along the same route.

In Tranent, a remembrance parade leaves East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club at 10.25am heading to the war memorial via Ormiston Road, High Street, Church Street and Winton Place, for 10.50am, where a wreath is laid. There is service at Tranent Parish Church at 11.30am. Hot food is served at the bowling club after the service, provided by Fa’side Community Kitchen. A road closure is in place on Winton Place and High Street from 10.20am to 11.40am.

A service is held at Ormiston Parish Church at 9.30am before a wreath is laid at the war memorial at 10.15am.

A service takes place at 10.45am at Gladsmuir Parish Church.

A service is also held at Pencaitland Parish Church at 10.45am before heading to the war memorial to lay a wreath at 11.45am.

In East Saltoun, the Rev Leslie Morrison conducts a service at Saltoun Parish Church at 10.50am.

In Elphinstone, a service is held at the war memorial at 2pm, with refreshments served at Elphinstone Miners’ Club afterwards.

In North Berwick, a service is held in St Andrew Blackadder Church at 10.45am with the wreath-laying ceremony before the act of remembrance takes place at the war memorial at noon. The parade of organisations to the church and the war memorial is led by the pipe band. Lord Lieutenant Roderick Urquhart will be in attendance.

A service is held at Dirleton Kirk from 9.30am to 10.15am, followed by a wreath-laying at the war memorial at 10.45am and a two-minute silence at 11am.

In Gullane, a church service is held at 9.45am at Gullane Parish Church, followed by wreath-laying at the war memorial at 11am.

A wreath is laid at the war memorial in Whitekirk at 10.15am.

A service takes place at Aberlady Parish Church at 11.15am, after laying the wreath at the war memorial at 11am.

In Haddington, people can assemble outside the Corn Exchange at 10am. The parade to St Mary’s Parish Church starts at 10.15am, with wreaths laid at the war memorial 15 minutes later. A minute’s silence takes place at 11am and there is a thanksgiving service before the parade returns to the Mercat Cross for a salute.

At 9.30am in Athelstaneford, an act of remembrance takes place at the war memorial.

A wreath is laid at the war memorial in Whittingehame at 10.45am.

In Gifford, the Rev Norman Smith is conducting the service at the village’s church at 10.50am.

The Rev Anikó Schütz Bradwell conducts a service at the war memorial in Humbie at 10.50am.

In Dunbar, the town’s branch of the Royal British Legion hold a service, with a parade setting off towards the war memorial from outside Legion Close on High Street at 10.30am. Members of the public are advised to be at the war memorial for about 10.50am. A service following the parade takes place in Dunbar Parish Church at 11.45am.

At 9.30am in Stenton, there is a short service at the church followed by an act of remembrance at the war memorial.

While in East Linton, Prestonkirk Parish Church holds a service at 10.45am, followed by the laying of wreaths at the memorial in the park.
