As Scotland prepares to be hit Storm Babet, several areas of the country have been given yellow, amber and even red weather warnings for rain and wind from tomorrow.

With the most severe of the weather set to impact the northern part of the country, East Lothian is currently expected to avoid the worst of the weather conditions.

However, a yellow weather warning for rain is in place impacting the south east of East Lothian from Friday until 6am on Saturday, while a yellow warning for wind will impact the whole of the county from tomorrow until noon on Saturday.

The Met Office has advised: “Coastal easterly gales, accompanied by gusts of 40 to 60mph are likely to renew in the south of the area or continue in the north of the area, extending a short way inland and affecting other higher ground areas inland too. These will be accompanied by large waves and dangerous coastal conditions. Winds are expected to ease through Saturday.

“While there is still some uncertainty in the detail, periods of heavy, prolonged and potentially disruptive rainfall are likely to develop on Thursday and continue in some places through to Saturday. Across central and southern Scotland, 20-40mm of rain is expected fairly widely with a few places likely to see 50-60mm.”

Parts of northern Scotland will be most severely impacted by rain with a red warning in place impacting Montrose and Laurencekirk.

LNER has announced that no services will run between Dunbar and Edinburgh tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday due to a weather warning for heavy rain.
