East Lothian's Grant Forrest is confident of making the weekend cut for the Scottish Open after a strong performance on the opening day.

South Korea's  Byeong-hun has a two stroke lead following the opening day of the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club.

Behind the leader, who is on an impressinve nine-under-par,  is Davis Riley of the United States, while Rory McIlroy and Thomas Detry are a shot further back on six under after a day of low scoring.

Forrest, who lives in Haddington, was consistent throughout, finishing on one-under-par.

The county player looked sharp on the course consistently making par with two birdies and one bogey.

Reflecting on his performance Forrest said: "It was steady, I played pretty well. I didn't really make much but had couple of nice shots for par at the right time to keep the momentum going.

"Off the tee I was pretty good today."

Reflecting on playing in front of a home crowd, Forrest said he enjoyed the experience.

He said: "It was great, having all the family here and staying at home has a really nice feel to it.

"I'm just trying to have a good week for them."

When asked if he was confident of making the cut for the weekend, Forrest responded with a confident "yes".

Ewen Ferguson is the best placed of the seven Scots as he sits on four under, one better than Robert MacIntyre.

Forrest tees off at the earlier time of 8.32am tomorrow on the tenth hole.
