A FOUR-MAN team is celebrating a historic hat-trick of titles after lifting the County Cup.

Craig Davidson, Kenny Glen, Ross Colquhoun and Marc Reid, representing Craigielaw Golf Club, retained the prize during the competition at Kilspindie Golf Club on June 24.

It was a close final playing double foursomes against Tantallon Golf Club, which went to two extra play-off holes down the first and 17th hole. A birdie from the partnership of Davidson and Colquhoun on the second extra play-off hole helped secure the victory.

The County Cup was presented to Kilspindie GC in 1868 by the Earl of Wemyss and March.

It was to be played annually among the golf clubs of East Lothian and is known to be the oldest double foursomes competition in the world.

The victory means a little piece of history for Craigielaw Golf Club as the first club in the modern era to win the trophy three times in a row.

In 2021, Craigielaw won at Gullane Golf Club before retaining the prize at Longniddry Golf Club 12 months ago.

Next year’s event will be played at Dunbar Golf Club.
