THE Mercat Gait Centre in Prestonpans has been forced to shut its swimming pool following an incident today.
A bather had an 'accident' in the pool at about 2pm, resulting in faecal contamination.
Due to policy, the water must be filtrated three times to allow the pool to be safe for visitors to use again.
This process takes about 18 hours, meaning the pool is not likely to reopen until tomorrow morning.
A spokesperson for the centre said: "Unfortunately, we have had an incident in the pool this afternoon that means we will not be able to allow customers to swim for the next 18 hours.
"This means the pool will be closed until tomorrow morning at 10am.
"We apologise for any inconvenience."
