BEER and live music will be flowing at a special event in Haddington this summer.

Half a dozen local bands will perform in Neilson Park, while a selection of beers from Winton Brewery, based in the town, will also be on offer during Goatfest.

Bob Snodgrass, who has been at the heart of organising the event, was looking forward to the festival, which takes place on May 20.

He said: “The idea really came from speaking to people at Dumfries Saints RFC.

“They run a beer festival called the Beltie Beer Festival and had been running it for a couple of years before Covid and ran it again last year.

“They talked about how much fun it was but also attracting beyond the usual people who go to rugby club events.

“The target audience is anyone in the surrounding area who loves music and having a good time with friends.”

The event is taking place at the home of Haddington RFC, who play in East Region League Division One.

Tickets have already gone on sale, with hopes that as many as 1,500 people will attend.

Mr Snodgrass, who has been involved in coaching in the club’s minis programme for eight years, was pleased to say that 300 tickets had already been sold for the event.

Money raised at the event will be invested back into the club, which provides a pathway for budding rugby players.

He said: “If the weather is a bit inclement, we have got marquees to allow for that.

“Hopefully it will be outside but, if not, we have got inside as a backup plan.

“Money raised will go towards supporting the club, the kids’ coaching and the equipment – all the usual stuff that is required to keep the club going.”

Winton Brewery is a strong supporter, of the event, while NB Gin will also be on hand, alongside a Prosecco bar.

County food vendors will also be in attendance at the festival, with Kevin Watt Butchers providing burgers.

Steve Holligan, from Winton Brewery, encouraged people to head along to the event, which will be on between noon and 6pm.

He said: “David [Mackinnon] and I both grew up in Haddington and own the award-winning Winton Brewery.

“We are excited to join Haddington Rugby Club and bring East Lothian our first beer and music festival – Goatfest!

“Join us on the day for a pint of Peelywally or Taps Aff, along with guest beers, gins and Prosecco.

“We look forward to seeing you there – and bring on the sunshine!”
