INTEREST is already being shown in new industrial units due to open on the western edge of Haddington next year.

The nine units, between Haddington Retail Park and Arthurs Way, are due to open in February.

East Lothian Council set aside £2.3 million from its capital plan budget to cover the construction costs.

Work is well under way to create the units, which have been classed as business use (class 4).

Uses could include offices, for research and development of products or for any industrial process that is without detriment to the amenity of that area.

A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council was “pleased” to say they had received “contact from some interested parties already and we will advertise the units for lease as soon as possible”.

Provost John McMillan, the council’s spokesman for environment, economic development and tourism, highlighted the ongoing work at the units to Haddington and District Community Council.

The Haddington and Lammermuir ward member was looking forward to the units being completed.

He said: “These nine units are on a sought-after business site at Gateside with good transport links to the rest of East Lothian and beyond, so it’s not surprising we have had interest before the units have been completed. It’s great that the council is able to deliver these new premises, as we know the demand is high in East Lothian.”
