A DRAGONS’ Den judge has highlighted two county businesses to his more than half a million followers.

Theo Paphitis mentioned both Village Green and Raven Botanicals on social media during Small Business Sunday.

Each week, six businesses gain either a retweet by the retail entrepreneur to his near half a million Twitter followers or are promoted to his thousands of followers in Instagram.

The weekly initiative, set up by Mr Paphitis in 2010, now has more than 3,000 Small Business Sunday winners and supports small businesses across the UK.

Earlier this year, Mr Paphitis, who is the owner of Robert Dyas, Ryman Stationery and Boux Avenue, held a special small business event, with more than 1,000 businesses in attendance.

Natalie Biggs, from Village Green, was delighted with the recognition earlier this month.

Launched in 2020, the lifestyle and homewares shop is based at Strawberry Barn on the outskirts of Dunbar.

Natalie opened the business during the pandemic in an attempt to celebrate and support local creative makers and small independent businesses.

She said: “It’s wonderful to receive recognition for my small business.

“I am over the moon and so delighted to be part of this network of wonderful small businesses.

“It was especially lovely to celebrate this moment with the founders of Raven Botanicals who have supplied Village Green with their amazing products since I launched two years ago.”

Meanwhile, Arabella and Charlotte Harvey, who live near Gifford, were equally delighted to learn of their success.

Award-winning skincare business Raven Botanicals was inspired by the rich heritage of the natural landscape.

The sisters said: "We are truly excited our small business has been highlighted by Theo.

“We can't wait to join Natalie and the other winners at next year's conference – not to mention our excitement at getting to meet Theo himself!

“It's great to see East Lothian businesses being rewarded for entrepreneurial spirit and drive.”

Mr Paphitis wished the businesses future success.

He said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK.

“My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings.

“The website will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish Village Green and Raven Botanicals every success.”
