TOYS were destroyed and flower beds tarnished by vandals at a school in Haddington - just a day before pupils returned to lessons.

Police in East Lothian confirmed the damage to outdoor toys, worth more £100, and flower beds from within the playpark of the nursery area at Haddington Primary School, on Tynebank Road, at about 4am on Tuesday.

Police are appealing for information and following lines of enquiry after viewing the school's CCTV.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: "Some materials associated with the refurbishment of the all-weather surface pitch had been moved however nothing was removed from the premises.

"It had no impact on the school’s return."

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101 citing incident number 712 17/8/21.
