AMBITIOUS proposals could see the return of beach huts to North Berwick.

Plans drawn up by North Berwick Harbour Trust Association could see six huts installed at the harbour – with local businesses, clubs and good causes set to benefit.

Jane McMinn, harbour trust association chairwoman, outlined the plans to the Courier.

She said: “The harbour trust plan to put them in the harbour area, for small businesses and clubs to rent either short-term, or seasonally, to help promote their cause or business in the community.

“That is all we are planning at the moment.”

Plans are still at an early stage, and the association are asking for individuals and small businesses to provide a quote for beach huts.

If the proposals get the go-ahead, the six huts would be built next to the Firth of Forth Lobster Hatchery, overlooking the harbour.

The harbour trust intends to have the new huts made in the style of the original North Berwick beach huts, as can be seen in pictures at the Coastal Communities Museum, on School Road.

The hope is the huts would be built over the winter.
