A SHOPKEEPER was injured during a robbery in Tranent last night.

Police sealed off the Mini Market, on New Row, after the incident which took place at around 8.15pm.

The 21-year-old shopkeeper was left with minor injuries during the robbery.

The shop remained taped off this morning as detectives continued investigations into the incident.

Police said the robber threatened staff in the shop before attacking the shopkeeper and making off with a quantity of cash.

They are appealing for witnesses and described the suspect as in his forties, around 6ft 2inches tall, of medium build, with short brown hair and dark stubble.

 He was wearing black boots, dark jeans, a dark jacket, dark scarf, and dark peaked cap.

Detective Inspector Keith Mackay of Dalkeith CID said: "This was a very distressing incident for the staff members involved and we're conducting numerous enquiries in the local area.

 "We'd urge anyone who may have seen the suspect, or who recognises his description, to come forward as soon as possible."
